Guwahati: The Assam cabinet on Thursday decided to set up a 50MW solar park on over 800 bighas of government land in Sonitpur district, which was recently cleared of encroachment. About 300 families occupying the government land in a riverine area at Borsola were evicted in September last year.
In a post-cabinet briefing, cabinet minister Jayanta Malla Baruah said, “We will make a 50MW solar park at Borsola, where an eviction drive was carried out last year. This will further protect the area from any possibility of future encroachment.”
The solar park will be set up by the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited.
The cabinet also approved a closed river circuit, which will connect five pilgrimage sites — Kamakhya, Doul Gobinda, Ashwaklanta, Umananda and Pandu Nath — under the Sagarmala project, the minister said.
“A ferry will connect these areas through a hop-on hop-off service. It will be a joint venture between the state government and the Centre. The state will have 45% share and 55% will be held by the Centre,” he added.
